Talking About Her Book
What is this book about?
This book is all about women; their lives, their struggles, and the constant judgment that they go through. I have seen so many women sacrificing and throwing away their dreams due to these issues. They live an entire lifetime without appreciation, even after doing everything they can. Even successful women have felt their spirits dampen because of this constant judgmental nature of society. Through this book, I intend to put out the message to every woman that it is OK to be the girl next door, a homemaker, a corporate honcho, an entrepreneur, or anything you desire to be. You are strong, resilient, and beautiful because you are a woman. A woman can achieve anything she sets her heart at.
Where did you get your information or ideas for your books?
Honestly, I am a person who relates to other people’s situations. My book is based on real people and their lives, and that is exactly what I want to talk about through these stories. Regular people with regular lives! I spoke to many women to understand their life and weaved their experiences into short stories.
What was your favorite part of the book? Why?
I want to say that the process of collating these stories and giving them shape was the part I loved the most. I loved that it invoked a lot of emotions in me when I was writing. I could relate to the emotions of every single lady, even though I have never been subject to many of their life struggles. I am blessed to have met so many amazing and inspiring women while writing this book. Oh! And I am in love with the book’s cover image. It gives you a sense of strength and a lot of positive vibes.
How long did it take to write this book? Why?
It is very subjective and it depends on each author, the topic of their book and the genre. A complex, research-based, or fact-based book could take much longer but yes, on average, it should take around 3 months to 2 years to have a final manuscript ready. And God saves you if you encounter writer’s block. It could take much longer! I took eight months to complete my book as I had to connect with a few women, verify a few facts, and I did take some extra time as it is my debut book and I did not want to rush into anything.
How did this book get published? Why did you choose to publish your book in this way?
Nowadays, there are a lot of avenues to publish a book. You have the good old traditional publishing, and then there is the booming self-publishing market. Amazon too has a fantastic platform called KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing), where an author can directly upload their book on Amazon for sale. I chose the self-publishing option as I wanted to get that extra load off me, to be very honest. In self-publishing, an author sends the manuscript to the publishing house, the draft undergoes a quick check and once approved, they take care of the rest. It is also a pretty fast process compared to traditional publishing, wherein it takes weeks and months for a manuscript to get accepted. Although traditional publishing still holds its stand in the market, and rightly so as it comes with a lot of perks, there are many authors like me, who are going the self-publishing route as well. I had a good experience with self-publishing as I was given much say throughout the process. I knew what was happening at every stage. That is a great assurance for me as a debut author.
