Perry was born and raised in Santa Barbara , California by Christian clergy parents and grew up listening to Gospel music only . After receiving a GED during the first year of high school, he began to pursue music as his career.
She released a self-titled Gospel Album in 2001 as Katy Hudson. In 2004, he recorded an album with the production group The Matrix , but was never released. After singing with the Capitol Music Group in 2007 , she adopted the stage name Katy Perry and released her first main-stream album, One of the Boys .
